Maintenance cylinder head tips

When a motorcycle has been ridden between 3,500 to 10,000 kilometers, it's important to thoroughly clean carbon buildup from the combustion chamber of the cylinder head, around the valve seats, and in the exhaust port. To remove carbon deposits from the combustion chamber, use a bamboo scraper or a plastic putty knife—avoid using metal tools that could scratch the delicate surfaces. For the exhaust port, a small screwdriver can be used carefully to scrape away the buildup. Be sure not to damage the combustion chamber walls, the valve seat surface, or the exhaust port walls during this process. After removing the carbon, wipe the area with clean gasoline or kerosene, then use a soft, clean cloth to finish the cleaning. Once done, reassemble the parts properly. Air-cooled engines rely heavily on the fins attached to the cylinder head and cylinder for heat dissipation. These fins help prevent the engine from overheating by allowing proper airflow. If the fins become damaged or clogged with dirt, the engine may overheat and fail to operate correctly. Therefore, it’s crucial to keep the cooling fins intact and free from debris. After riding the motorcycle for a while, especially after riding in the rain, it’s a good idea to rinse the engine with water to remove dirt, dust, and grime that might have accumulated. This helps maintain optimal cooling performance and extends the life of your motorcycle’s engine.
