Release date: 2007-07-27

In a recent initiative to bridge industry and academia, the Dongguan delegation visited two universities in Harbin, marking a significant step in fostering collaboration between local enterprises and academic institutions. Among the key agreements was one between Dongguan Besta Medical Devices Co., Ltd. and the Robotics Institute of Harbin Institute of Technology, focusing on the development of medical robots. This partnership signals a new direction for Dongguan-based companies entering the medical technology sector, with the potential for locally developed medical "robots" to soon make their mark in the market.

The visit was led by Leng Xiaoming, Executive Deputy Mayor of Dongguan, along with He Yuepei, Director of the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau. The team included representatives from several towns and local companies, such as Dongguan Yongqiang Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. During the trip, discussions were held with university leaders and professors on topics including automotive electronics, precision instruments, and medical devices, highlighting the growing interest in technological innovation across multiple sectors.

Several cooperation intentions were established during the visit. For instance, Dongguan Zhengye Electronics Co., Ltd. is working on three projects and has sought technical support from the universities, establishing preliminary partnerships with Harbin Institute of Technology. They also engaged in detailed discussions with Harbin Engineering University regarding the "micro-power high-precision digital signal displacement sensor" project, with plans for future collaboration. Meanwhile, Besta Medical Devices and the Harbin Institute of Technology's Robotics Institute have signed an agreement to explore joint development in the field of medical robotics.

According to officials from the Dongguan Science and Technology Bureau, enhancing industry-academia collaboration is crucial for addressing challenges related to technology, project development, and talent shortages in the region. Over the years, Dongguan has actively pursued such partnerships, establishing cooperation agreements with over 120 universities nationwide and launching more than 500 collaborative projects. This ongoing effort continues to drive innovation and growth in the city's industrial landscape.
