How to pour urine on wheat fields

After years of practical use, human urine has proven to be an effective and fast-acting fertilizer. It contains approximately 5 kg of nitrogen, 1.9 kg of potassium, and 15 kg of organic matter per 1,000 kg of urine. This is equivalent to about 25 kg of ammonium sulfate, 80 kg of bean cake, or 9 kg of superphosphate and 4 kg of potassium sulfate. Studies have shown that fields fertilized with urine can yield 15–25% more wheat compared to those without. Here’s how to apply urine properly in winter: 1. The best time to apply urine is when wheat begins to tiller and reaches the green-up stage. In northern regions, winter is typically dry and cold with less rain or snow, making it an ideal time to use urine for promoting growth, especially for strengthening root development in young plants. 2. Before the ground freezes, wheat is still growing slowly, and its respiration is strong. At this point, applying pure urine directly may burn the seedlings, so it's better to dilute it with water (1–2 times) and pour it between the rows. Once the ground is frozen, you can apply it directly onto the wheat without dilution. If possible, combine it with watering to flush concentrated urine into the field. In dry or hilly areas, it’s best to dig small trenches or use acupuncture points to pour the urine into the soil and cover it afterward. 3. The amount of urine applied should be carefully managed. Too little won’t significantly boost yield, while too much can actually reduce production, cause delayed maturity, or even lead to crop failure. The application should depend on the number of seedlings, the base fertilizer used, and the overall health of the wheat. If the base fertilizer was insufficient and the seedlings are weak, a single application in winter can help strengthen them and improve their frost resistance. Winter applications are generally more effective than spring ones. 4. Avoid pouring urine on snow-covered fields, as it can cause the snow to melt prematurely, leading to frozen water that damages the plants. Also, snow naturally insulates the ground, and applying urine disrupts this protective layer. Additionally, since human urine contains around 1.5% salt, it should not be used on saline-alkali soils. It’s best to apply urine during dry, cold weather when the ground is not frozen.
