On September 7, 2016, the American Cancer Advisory Committee (NCAB) officially accepted the draft of the BLUE RIBBON PANEL of the CANCER MOONSHOT.
The "Cancer Moon Plan" is an ambitious plan for customer service cancer launched by US President Barack Obama in January 2016. It has joined forces including the National Association for Immunization (NIC), pharmaceutical companies, academic research institutions, government departments, non-profit organizations, technology companies, doctors and other institutions and individuals, and is committed to completing the results of cancer research that would take 10 years to achieve in five years. In this draft, the Blue Ribbon Panel of the Cancer Lunar Program has put forward 10 recommendations. The recommendations involve clinical trials, data sharing, cancer immunization and many other things. First, establish a joint network to allow cancer patients to participate more directly
Cancer clinical trials provide cancer patients with the opportunity to participate directly in cancer research and receive potential treatment. But these clinical trials are not easy to find and participate for most patients. Therefore, this proposal hopes that cancer patients will join this new joint network, allowing them to obtain comprehensive genetic diagnosis of cancer and pre-registration of clinical diagnosis while ensuring privacy. Thus, when clinical trials meet regulatory requirements, they can be directly contacted. At the same time, researchers can also review the progress of these trials through a web database to assess the performance of this treatment.
Second, establish a clinical trial network specifically for immunotherapy
Allowing patients to release their own immunity to attack cancer is a turning point in cancer treatment. But in order to make more people benefit from this, it is necessary to understand why these immunotherapies are applicable to a small number of patients, in order to conduct more in-depth research on these issues. A clinical trial network dedicated to pediatric and adult cancer immunotherapy can be established, which will greatly enhance research in this area. At the same time, it can help develop new vaccines to prevent various cancers.
This clinical trial network requires two major goals:
1. Deactivate or alter our own immune system to attack and kill cancer cells.
2. To develop preventive immunotherapy, like current polio, diphtheria, and rubella vaccines, to save future generations from cancer cells.
