Foreign Power: China's Sugar Industry Enters an Era of High Sugar Prices

Liu Hande, chairman of the Guangdong Sugar Association, said that China has entered the era of high sugar prices, and the domestic sugar shortage in the 2010/11 sugar season may reach 2 million tons.

China Securities News reported that he cited the consumption of 13.79 million tons of sugar in the sugar-supply period for the 2009/10 period. According to the increase in sugar consumption of 6.22%, the sugar consumption in 2010/11 may reach approximately 14.62 million tons. .

The supply of sugar is not very optimistic. At present, it is understood from the open sugar companies that due to the severe drought in the spring of 2010, the sugar production in the 2010-2011 season is forecast to be less than 12 million tons.

In the 2009/10 crop season, China produced 10.74 million tons of sugar, including 10.11 million tons of cane sugar, accounting for 94.13%, and beet sugar of 610,000 tons, accounting for 5.6%.

The report also stated that after China’s State Reserve Sugar sold about 2 million tons since 2009, it is currently estimated at about 1 million tons.

At present, China's sugar industry has formed a consumption pattern that is mainly sugar cane sugar supplemented with beet sugar and supplemented with starch sugar.
