It was one of those nights that felt like something straight out of a movie—explosions lighting up the sky as if the heavens themselves were on fire. The kind of spectacle that makes you forget everything else for a moment and just stand there in awe.

Sorry to keep you waiting—I know this is getting a little vague without context. Let me set the scene: every year, my husband and brothers make their annual pilgrimage to gather enough fireworks to turn our backyard into a pyrotechnic wonderland. It's become somewhat of a tradition, though this time around, things didn't quite go as planned.

Truth be told, this year we ended up skipping our usual backyard show. My husband dug out some smaller fireworks at the last minute to give the kids a taste of the magic, but it wasn’t nearly as grand as what we’ve come to expect. Honestly, I’m not even sure if we would’ve remembered to do anything at all if it weren’t for the kids reminding us!

Anyway, since we didn’t have any fireworks to document this year, I thought I’d share some photos instead from a trip we took to Chicago over Memorial Day weekend. These were actually taken on Navy Pier during one of those freezing evenings we spent walking around all day. You can see the exhaustion on our faces—it was a long day, but worth it in the end.

But here’s the thing—I’ve got a confession to make. I haven’t taken many photos recently, and it’s not because I’ve been lazy. This past week and a half has been rough, to say the least. Consistent nausea hit me hard, and honestly? Taking pictures of myself retching into the toilet doesn’t exactly scream "inspiration." Thankfully, I think I’m finally turning a corner, and there are signs of improvement ahead.

I hope this makes sense—I’m writing this late at night, and my brain feels like mush. But hey, maybe tomorrow will bring better stories. Until then, here’s to hoping life gets a little less chaotic soon.
