Under the support of the National 863 Program, significant progress has been made in the research and development of new high-quality, disease-resistant forest grass varieties. This project has advanced efficient breeding techniques, achieved key innovations in tissue culture propagation, and established a somatic embryogenesis technology platform. These breakthroughs have greatly enhanced the level of forestry and grass breeding in China, contributing to the industrialization of forest products and the improvement of the national ecological environment.
The project has filed 70 national invention patents, with 5 granted, and one utility model patent applied for. A total of 24 new species and strains of forest grass have been approved, including two American poplar varieties that have entered demonstration and commercial stages. Seven varieties have obtained protection rights for new plant varieties, while over 10 strains are undergoing intermediate trials or pilot production. The project also developed 22 new products with promising applications, trained 107 master's graduates and 154 PhD students, and published 9 monographs and 328 papers, including 23 indexed in SCI and EI databases.
In addition, the project has established 67 technical demonstration and industrialization bases of various scales, involving 44 companies in the research, testing, and commercialization of forest grass technologies. Six technology transfer results were achieved, generating transfer fees exceeding 7.2 million yuan, and the project has delivered economic benefits totaling 1.52 billion yuan. These achievements reflect the strong impact of scientific innovation on both the economy and the environment.
