Tomato with seafood has aphrodisiac effect

Scientists at the All India Medical Institute in New Delhi have studied 30 infertile men and found that lycopene contained in watermelons, grapes, tomatoes and some shellfish can increase semen concentration. Six men successfully succeeded in conceiving their female partner after the experiment.

Lycopene makes sperm healthier

The participants in the study ranged in age from 23 to 45 years old and suffered from varying degrees of infertility ranging from one to twenty years, including insufficient sperm count and insufficient sperm inactivity.

Participants in the test will take two milligrams of lycopene twice a day. Experiments have shown that lycopene intake is directly related to infertility. After taking lycopene for three months, as many as 67% of infertile patients showed a significant improvement in sperm health. In 73% of patients, sperm was more active than in the past, and 63% of the sperm had significantly improved “structural quality”.

The researchers pointed out that oral lycopene treatment is positive for unexplained cases of infertility and has a more significant effect on improving sperm count and activity. The normal male testis contained a large amount of 650 kinds of carotenoids including lycopene, but the content of lycopene in the testis of infertile men was lower.

Therefore, scientists believe that eating lycopene can improve male infertility. In fact, lycopene has been proven to treat and prevent oral cancer.
