To manage whiteflies and yellow mealworms, several insecticides can be used, such as 10% imidacloprid diluted at 3000 times, 3% acetamiprid at 2500 times, 40% speedculling at 1200 times, and 48% roche at 2000 times. These products are effective when applied at the right time, especially before the pests move from branches to leaves and young fruits.
For controlling scab and melasma (black spot), fungicides like 80% Daoxue at 800 times, 62.75% chlorothalonil at 1000 times, 40% Fuxing at 6000 times, and 12.5% diniconazole at 2500 times are commonly recommended. Dasheng and Yibao are protective fungicides, ideal for orchards with lighter disease pressure and less rainfall. In contrast, Fuxing and diniconazole are systemic fungicides, more suitable for orchards with a history of heavy disease outbreaks and low annual rainfall.
Bagged pears often suffer from physiological issues such as fruit drop, shriveling, and poor quality due to deficiencies in boron, calcium, or other essential nutrients, as well as unfavorable temperature and humidity conditions inside the bags. To address this, applying high-quality foliar fertilizers like rare earth amino acids, chelated fertilizers, or micronutrient sprays can significantly improve fruit development and quality.
Before bagging, it's important to apply pesticides when whiteflies or mealworms have not yet moved from the branches to the leaves and young fruits. Ensure thorough coverage of the inner parts of the tree where pests may hide. Since young pears have a thin cuticle, improper pesticide use can lead to fruit russeting. Avoid using emulsifiable concentrates (EC) whenever possible, and keep the sprayer pressure moderate to prevent damage to the fruit.
