Check out the recording of our recent webinar featuring Christopher Thomson, a researcher from Heriot-Watt University. Chris shared his groundbreaking work on enhancing automated flow synthesis by introducing in-line flash chromatography purification. This innovation is set to revolutionize how we approach chemical synthesis.
During the session, you’ll gain insights into:
- The basics of flow chemistry and the latest advancements in in-line purification techniques.
- A comprehensive overview of earlier continuous chromatography methods, along with their strengths and limitations.
- Techniques for integrating flow reactors with puriFlash® automated chromatography systems.
- Practical tips and tricks for mastering continuous in-line flash chromatography.
- Future possibilities and potential developments in this field.
Chris earned his MChem degree in Chemistry with Biochemistry from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh back in 2018, where he was honored with the prestigious 'William H. Perkin Prize' for outstanding performance in organic chemistry. Following that, he secured a PhD scholarship through the EPSRC-funded Center for Doctoral Training in Critical Resource Catalysis (CRITICAT), co-supervised by Dr. Filipe Vilela and Dr. Ai-Lan Lee.
His current research focuses on advancing heterogeneous photocatalysis for organic synthesis, particularly through innovative flow chemistry applications. Chris has already contributed numerous publications exploring cutting-edge flow systems equipped with features like in-line NMR spectroscopy, in-line UV-Vis spectroscopy, and static mixing photocatalyst monoliths fabricated via functional material additive manufacturing. Most recently, he unveiled the world’s first example of continuous in-line flash chromatography—a topic we’ll explore further during the webinar.
