Australian scientists have invented a natural gene technology that can help plants avoid being harmed by viruses and save farmers a lot of money.
Dr. Peter Waterhouse of the Australian Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) said that similar to humans using vaccines to prevent diseases, this kind of hairpin RNA is used. Natural genetic techniques can help plants fight viruses, reduce the use of pesticides, and indirectly reduce the environmental pollution caused by pesticides.
Scientists explain that this hairpin RNA contains incomplete viral RNA that, when transported into the plant, stimulates the plant's defense system and eliminates incomplete viral RNA, thereby increasing the plant's ability to resist the virus.
