Adding non-edible substances to food is criminal

According to a report by the reporter (Zhang Jian), the Ministry of Health recently introduced relevant knowledge on the website of food additive supervision and the main criteria for food additives, stating clearly that non-edible substances (such as malachite green, Sudan red, etc.) are It refers to the substance that was illegally added to food, and it is a totally different concept from food additives.

According to reports, food additives are chemical synthetic substances or natural substances added to foods for the purpose of improving the quality of foods, as well as the need for preservation and processing. The "Hygienic Standard for the Use of Food Additives" (GB2760) stipulates the definition, scope, types of food additives allowed, the scope of use, the amount of use, and the principles of use of food additives in China.

At present, domestic and international use of food additives is allowed, but the supervision and management of food additives and safety evaluation need to establish a corresponding system of laws and regulations. China's "Food Safety Law" and its implementation regulations clearly stipulate the division of responsibilities between the Ministry of Health and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, and other departments, and strictly supervise the process of food additives from production to use. The addition of non-edible substances (such as malachite green, Sudan red, etc.) to foods is not only different from the abuse of food additives, but it is also a crime that seriously threatens people's diet safety.

It is also understood that China currently has 23 categories of food additives and 2400 varieties. Among them, there are 158 processing aids, 1,853 food flavors, 55 gum base substances, and 334 other food additives. In addition, China also allows the use of about 200 food fortifiers. Since the Ministry of Health and other departments established the illegally added “black list” system, 5 batches of a total of 47 substances (such as malachite green, Sudan red, etc.) have been listed on the “non-edible substances illegally added” list.
