How to manage greenhouse peppers after planting

After planting, maintaining the right temperature is crucial. The ideal temperature range should be between 27°C and 28°C. During this period, it's recommended to briefly ventilate and dehumidify the greenhouse in the early morning and late afternoon. As soon as the seedlings are established, cover them with plastic film, but do not fully seal the area. Instead, spread wheat straw evenly in the aisles. This helps reduce humidity inside the greenhouse, lowers the risk of disease, and keeps the soil loose. However, the wheat straw must be sterilized with a small amount of carbendazim before use to prevent any potential plant diseases. Watering should be avoided for the first month after planting to maintain optimal soil temperature. Perform deep cultivation 3-4 times to improve air circulation and warm the soil. During the first flowering stage, perform the first earthwork. Once the peppers start setting fruit, apply 10–15 kg of urea and conduct two more rounds of cultivation. Avoid overwatering, as excessive moisture can harm the plants. For fertilization, apply a base fertilizer with a balanced compound fertilizer such as 15-15-15 to enhance soil fertility. However, avoid using chemical fertilizers immediately after planting to protect the root system. Some growers use 10 kg of "Miao Bao" (a root-stimulating agent) when planting small vegetables, which helps promote strong root development and healthier seedlings. After harvesting the first batch of peppers, continue top-dressing 3–4 times throughout the growing season, using 5–10 kg of urea or a ternary compound fertilizer each time. Water the plants 1–2 times after each application. After the fourth harvest, spray the leaves with a 0.2–0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution or a 0.2% urea solution. You can also apply a foliar micro-nutrient fertilizer to help prevent early aging and ensure continued productivity. Light is another important factor. On sunny days, open the greenhouse covers early in the morning and close them later in the evening to maximize light exposure and extend the lighting duration. For the first month after planting, even if the weather is cloudy, remove the coverings during the day to allow more scattered light to reach the plants, as long as the temperature remains stable. Pest control is essential for healthy growth. Regular monitoring and timely intervention are necessary to manage pests like aphids, fruit fly larvae, viral diseases, and root rot. Before planting peppers, mix 1–2 kg of Xiangnong No. 4 per mu with the soil and place it in the planting holes. This treatment helps prevent damage from pests that may affect young plants.
